Kira: Rebel With a Cause

Loved this spread about Nana Visitor in the February 1998 Starlog. Here are a couple highlights from her interview.

On Deep Space Nine maybe not doing so great in the ratings:

“I love lots of lemon juice in my vinaigrette because it tastes strong, but it will put some people off the entire salad. I don’t know how else to describe it. You can’t please all the people all the time. That’s really how I feel about Deep Space Nine. The more you please everybody, the  more you are pabulum. I would rather be a tasty vinaigrette than everyone’s favourite dressing. We stand out a little more. We make you think a little more. We’re a little more controversial.”

On working while pregnant:

“For me, personally, it has been a great experience. I’ll forever appreciate that they made it easy for me when I was pregnant with Django. That meant a lot to me. They kept me in the stories and went out of their way to work me into the storylines, to shoot me in close-ups.”

And on Kira (I seriously love this quote):

“We saw Kira mostly be a warrior in the early days and we’ve seen her evolve into this kind of sensitive, very loving person who feels an enormous amount of pain. I would like to see her using all of her faculties, all of her emotions. I would like to see her be a warrior with a baby in one hand and a phaser in the other. I would like to see her do itallnow, and not just one or the other from episode to episode.”
